General Function:
Reporting to the Construction Services Volunteer Manager, the Construction Services Volunteer Associate is responsible for assisting the Construction Services volunteer program which includes new home construction and home repair. The work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday 7:30am – 4:00pm (3:30pm when on jobsite).

To be successful in this role, the applicant must Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage volunteers; Exhibit excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; and show initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to contribute positively to shared goals with minimal supervision.

Know How:
Committed to the mission of AAHH, the incumbent will serve on the Volunteer Services team, part of the Constituent Relationship Team. Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make public presentations are required. The individual must be able to work with minimum supervision and work well with others.

Principal Activities:
  1. Perform administrative functions to support volunteer recruitment, orientation, scheduling, recognition, retention, and evaluation of the entire volunteer program.
  2. Work closely with construction staff to support daily volunteer needs. Assist with signing volunteers in, providing orientation, maintaining bulletin boards, stocking, and keeping inventory of volunteer supplies.
  3. Track attendance, update shared jobsite calendars.
  4. Assist with online postings, scheduling groups and house sponsors.  
  5. Use the database to track, record, and report volunteer activity. Assist with volunteer-related record keeping and file management.
  6. Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing volunteer appreciation events.
  7. Build with volunteers and future homeowners on a regular basis to observe and gain an understanding of tasks and safety protocols.
  8. Attend outreach events on behalf of Volunteer Services.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in administrative work; experience with volunteers preferred
  • Strong team approach; ability to work well with staff, volunteers, and members of the public
  • Attention to detail; thoughtful, eager to learn, and flexible with unexpected schedule changes or adjustments
  • Take ownership of completing projects on schedule
  • Ability to effectively manage a small group of volunteers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable transportation to allow for multiple site visits around Buncombe and Madison County
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for the mission of AAHH
